FAQ

What kind of program is CHP?

Cincinnati Heat Premier is a non-profit program that helps individuals learn the fundamentals of basketball.

Our mission is to improve each athlete’s basketball IQ, athleticism, discipline, and overall skill level. In return, we expect high character, talented, dedicated, and hard-working players.

Each player should have a good attitude and a desire to get better that equals their love for the game.

Our dedicated coaching staff is comprised of qualified high school and youth coaches.

How do the tryouts work?

All teams are selected based on annual open tryouts conducted by Cincinnati Heat Premier coaching staff. Up to 12 players are chosen per team. Tryouts are usually held any time from January to March.

How often do the teams practice?

Teams practice at least twice a week, typically on weeknights. Practice sessions provide time for the development of individual skills and team concepts. Defensive and offensive strategies are covered.

Players are expected to learn the system during these sessions, so that during games coaches can reinforce concepts and procedures that were taught previously.

How many tournaments will there be?

Cincinnati Heat Premier teams compete in at least six tournaments during the spring and summer.

Some teams, if qualified, may compete in National AAU Tournament events at their respective age levels.

Players are expected to learn the system during these sessions, so that during games coaches can reinforce concepts and procedures that were taught previously.

How much playing time is provided?

Every Cincinnati Heat Premier player is a contributing member of the team. They are challenged in practice sessions and later provided opportunities during game situations to display their basketball capabilities.

All players receive playing time; however, some players might receive more playing time than others. The amount of time that a player receives is determined by multiple factors such as:

-match-ups

-foul trouble

-attitude

-attendance at both practices and games

-work ethic

-and attendance of college coaches who are evaluating a player.
Players are expected to learn the system during these sessions, so that during games coaches can reinforce concepts and procedures that were taught previously.

What kind of exposure does CHP provide for athletes?

Many athletes have aspirations to play collegiate basketball. Cincinnati Heat Premier provides those players who wish to pursue basketball numerous opportunities to demonstrate their basketball abilities at AAU tournaments attended by top college coaches and recruiters.

What do the team fees pay for?

Cincinnati Heat Premier charges an annual player participation fee that is used to defray the cost of enrolling teams in tournaments, gym rental, insurance, equipment, and other basic operating needs.

As a federally recognized not-for-profit corporation, Cincinnati Heat Premier has managed to keep this fee very reasonable compared to similar programs through judicious cost management, fundraising, and the contributions of its many volunteers.

Consult the Cincinnati Heat Premier website prior to tryouts for the most current participation fee. This fee is payable at the time a player is selected for one of our teams. The cost of travel to tournaments (transportation, meals, and lodging) is the responsibility of each player. If the cost of participation is a concern, the Club Director may be consulted concerning alternative financial arrangements.
